How do I recognise lipedema?
What lipedema is:
- The typical symptoms of lipedema are unequal distribution of body fat with emphasis on the lower extremities and pain in the legs. In some cases, the upper arms may also be affected.
- The condition occurs exclusively in women.
- The vast majority of women with lipedema also suffer from significant overweight, which is not caused by the lipedema.
- Lipedema can impact their professional life, personal life, relationships, self-esteem and leisure activities.
What lipedema is NOT:
- Fluid accumulation in the tissue of the legs and/or
arms (oedema) - Cause of lymphoedema
- A progressive condition. Only if you continue to
gain weight can the lipedema
also worsen.
